Prologue

After years of research and failings, I’ve finally found a way to use my physical SIM card (works also with eSIMs) via VoIP, using a softphone! If we do not have, want, or can use a SIM card, we can also bypass it and rent a phone number (DID Number). My current rate for calls to Italy is 0.04 USD per minute, charged at increments of 6 seconds, so a 5 seconds call would cost 0.004, and a 7 seconds one, 0.008 (sub cent). with no monthly costs (unless you need/order a DID). BTRFS corrupted file on progressive snapshots

case

Have a corrupted file across 10 progressive snapshots on the remote end, read-only, managed by btrbk. The original file on the sending disk is intact. I would like to tell BTRFS to use the intact file instead of the corrupted one, without breaking the progressive backups.

trial 1

Tried to create a rw subvolume of the corrupted snapshot, hoping that once the file would have been overwritten, having the same hash, this would have been corrected in all the snaps. Once copied to the subvolume, have tried to completely read it via cp /new/file.ext /dev/null and it copied fine, but… a later md5sum of the 2 files, the one on the rw subvolume and the one on the ro snapshot, revealed that the corrupted one was still different, and was indeed giving an I/O error back.

Recently, I have adopted the Ice Giant to cool my threadripper 1900X.

It was May and it was already shining, as the max temperature I got was of 72°C against the usual more than 80! But now that is November and temperatures are way lower, here I share the stunning result: max temperature 68.3 °C! And it was on the 3rd of the month, now that it is much cooler in Italy, I don’t even enter throttling! (happens at 68 °C).

My story and research

I am and always been a LUKS lover, so much that I crypt every my drive with it, even USBs! (a bit overkill, but ehi! that’s me u.u)

Problem is that in the late 2019, I noticed that my nvme, a Samsung SSD 970 EVO 1TB, was not performing as well as I expected… I was indeed only writing at 1400 Mbps while it was advertised for over 3000 Mbps! That’s half the speed!

How to Make NeatVideo Work on Natron Flatpak

Problem

NeatVideo does not work out of the box on Natron when used via Flatpak, this because the directory in which it gets installed cannot be seen by default.

Tried asking on the NeatVideo forum, but did not receive particularly useful help, also I never contuinued the conversation, anyway a solution has been found!

Partial solution

To solve this, we can install a utility (can also be done manually) called Flatseal

and give Natron permissions to read “All system libraries, executables and static data” Then, add the path on the

Today I did a full upgrade of my Arch machine, when I immediately noticed that mpv stopped working, displaying an intimidating

Searching for a solution

I then searched the net for informations about this problem, but could find none, so I opened Electron to ask the Matrix Arch Linux community and also there, electron reported error and could not open.

Someone of you might know that between my passions for Japan, Linux, Film-Making, 3D… VFx compositing takes a special place!

Enable standby on TCG OPAL 2.0 ciphered devices on Linux

If you have a system with a Full Disk Encryption that makes use of the TCG OPAL 2.0, you’ll probably be resigned to keep your system running or shut it down completely and powering it up again. This is unacceptable but here I’ve a solution for you.

This guide is working on the Linux Kernel 5.11.2-arch1-1.
The following steps are tested and working but not for systemctl suspend, at least for me… only with other suspension methods listed below.

10 hours video - how i made the loop

Here’s how I made my 10hrs loop video of the 1st photographed black hole in a 3D reconstruction. 4K video format.

For first I downloaded the whole video in which it was inserted, then precisely cut from start of the rotation cycle to the end, counting the frames between movements of the coordinates arrows on the left (3).

I started playing with my key files in order to encrypt and secure them, I don’t want my ZeroNet account to fall in malevolent hands and I’m mainly referring to those of a thief.

I decrypted my keys into a folder and then sym-linked to zeronet/data so I started using the platform as usual without hassles… But starting from the second time I activated the service, after a reboot and forgot the first time to un-encrypt, something started to go wrong… indeed, I was unable to like stuff, comment and act as usual getting errors like this one directly on the GUI:

My conversion engine has been the fact that I opened a VAT number to work as a freelancer film-maker and as such.. My computer started to become something that could cause me legal troubles! My entire life is nearly a drastic change..

Since 3 or more, years I switched my life to a workaholic one. But this applies for a non-stop work! I have not to stop in what I am doing, only for coffee breaks.. But in these days I’m switching my entire life studies to a barman one. Everything is changing and can’t find concentration to finish my deadlines works.. (I will probably have to apply a discount to my customers for this) This is because of my no-moneys condition, so at the bar I have to work alongside the only worker I can pay for the entire building renovation and this job is stealing an enormous fraction of my day time..

Since when I was very young I declared war to my mother language.. I didn’t like at school and neither talking, because… It is so limitative, i mean… The world speaks many languages but only one is spoke by every nation: English.

So I switched, even if I never been a master in speaking It.. Then It happened. I have been 1 week in a Swedish family and the father of this told me that He never studied the language.. but He was talking It so much better than me. I became curious and asked “How is It possible?” He told me that in Sweden they don’t usually have a translation to Swedish for films.. but only for toons! So He learned by watching subtitled films! Back to Italy I started doing the same and my English skill has increased! Cool!!! Now I can understand It so much better but what about talking.. It is so much more difficult.. no way for this, I was in need of exercising!….. For fortune I knew some beautiful people from outside the nation and we started talking :)

It started in a language but evolved in another.. It started as a random sharing but now I’m taking It more seriously.. It was nothing, now I smile watching It :)

In Italy, Internet is something similar to an optional.. It’s not necessary and govern doesn’t seem to care about giving access to It’s citizens..
Okay, almost everybody has an available wired internet access.. at a reasonable speed of 56Kbps.. Someone can reach 800 Kbps.. but this was internet in 1998 so almost where we stopped..

I’m talking about my situation, because in the cities we are decades nearly the current era, 40/50 Mbps are reached, so It’s cool! (a little expensive but remains cool)
